Spain coach World Cup 2018

Spain coach Lopetegui sacked two days prior to the World Cup 2018!

We’ve got a shocking piece of news for you today: Spain’s coach Julen Lopetegui has just been fired, less than two days before the start of the World Cup 2018! The reason for his sudden dismissal lies in the fact that he had withheld the news that he is to replace Zinedine Zidane as coach for Real Madrid once the World Cup comes to an end. Real Madrid has announced this appointment on Tuesday afternoon.

Spanish football federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales has declared Lopetugui’s behavoiour as unacceptable, albeit acknowledging his contribution to the Spanish team in the lead-up to the Word Cup.

"There is a way that you must act, Julen has worked in a great way with the team, but we cannot accept how he has acted in this case," Rubiales announced, due to the fact that the negotiation took place “without any information to the RFEF”.

Lopetegui had been Spain’s manager since 2016 following Vicente del Bosque’s retirement, and has had huge success in this role. Rumour has it that some senior players, including captain Sergio Ramos, have insisted that Lopetuguis hould remain in charge, but Rubiales declared that “you can’t do things this way, two or three days before the World Cup,” and insisted that “the Spanish team is the team of all Spain”.

Spain’s sporting director and retired Real Madrid defender Fernando Hierro will now take charge of the team. Hierro won five La Liga titles at the Bernabeu and can also boast of three Champions League triumphs.
