Who will be England’s World Cup 2018 opponents?
Have you been wondering about England’s chances of winning this World Cup? To really be able to predict this with more accuracy, you should know more about England’s World Cup opponents during the Group Stage, as well as about those teams they could face if they proceed to the last 16. In this article we'll discuss what could happen as the World Cup kicks off and provide a brief introduction to England’s World Cup opponents, before having a quick look at what the World Cup odds at some betting sites are suggesting regarding the outcomes.
England's chances of qualifying from the Group Stage
England will play three Group Stage matches, the first one being against Tunisia, the second against Panama, and the third against Belgium, which is considered their toughest opponent. Let's have a look at the key players from each team as well as the World Cup 2018 Group Stage odds.
England's chances of beating Tunisia
England’s first match will be played against Tunisia on the 18th of June in Volgograd, a match which according to the bookies, can easily be won by the Three Lions. It will be Tunisia’s fifth World Cup after they bet Guinea, Libya and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final stage. However, Tunisia will have to play without one of its key players, Youssef Msakni, who had a knee ligament injury last April. The Tunisian team will be managed by Nabil Maaloul, who has won two league titles and the CAF Champions League.
Sunderland midfielder Wahbi Khazri can be considered as one of the key players in the Tunisian team. Some are seeing Khazri as a threat for England during the World Cup, given his track record of scoring at Stade Rennais this season. Other key players include goalkeeper and captian Aymen Mathlouthi and Leicester City defender Yohan Benalouane.

England’s chances of winning against Panama
It will be Panama’s first World Cup after placing third in the final CONCACAF qualification round. Their match against England will take place on the 24th of June at 13:00 at Nizhny Novgorod, and once again the odds are in England’s favour.
Panama will be captained by Seattle Sounders defender Roman Torres and managed by Hernan Dario Gomez, who has experience in coaching teams at previous World Cups, and has managed the likes of Colombia and Ecuador.
Panama’s midfielder Gabriel Gomez is also considered to be one of the team’s key players, and can boast of a 138 international appearances. England also has to watch out for Huachipato striker Gabriel Torres, the same man who scored against Costa Rica and took his country to this World Cup!

England’s chances to win against Belgium
England will face Belgium on the 28th of June at the Kaliningrad Stadium, and without a shadow of a doubt, this team is England’s fiercest opponent during the Group Stage. Belgium averaged 4.3 goals per game during qualification, and came ahead of Greece and Bosnia Herzegovina.
The Belgian squad will consist of some familiar faces with impressive records, including Man United striker Romelu Lukako (their top scorer in qualification), Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, and Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. Their defence will pose a real threat to England, especially since it will consist of the likes of Vincent Kompay, and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. They will be managed by ex Everton manager Roberto Martinez, who has spent most of his career in Engalnd and therefore has valuable insight about the English squad!
In fact, it’s rather worrying to see that betting sites think that Belgium has a better chance of winning this match, even though the odds for a Belgium win are not too high yet.

Who can England face in the knockouts?
England can qualify from the Group Stage if it's one of the top two teams from Group G. The team will then play in the round of 16, and it is confirmed that here they will play against a team from Group H. The four teams in Group H are Colombia, Japan, Poland and Senegal.
It's difficult to predict which of the above team will qualify from the Group Stage, but it seems that Colombia and Poland, with the latter being the favourite to top the group according to bookies, probably due to the fact that the Polish team will captained by Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.
The Round of 16 will be tough, but the outlook for England to qualify is far from impossible. Assuming they proceed, they would then play against a team from either Group E or F in the quarter-final. Group E consists of Brazil, Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia, whereas Group F includes Germany, Mexico, Sweden and South Korea. Brazil are naturally the favourites to beat their Group E and Round of 16 opponents, whereas Germany is the favourite from Group F. The going gets tough here!
If England to manage to proceed to the semi-final, they will play against a team that has managed to qualify from either Group A, B, C and D. This means they will avoid the likes of Portugal, France and Argentina until this stage.
According to our sources, it seems that England's route to the final will be easier if they manage to top their Group (which means that they have to beat Belgium). In this case, they will probably have to face Germany in the quarter-finals, who are expected to place first in their Group. This will probably result in having to face either Argentina or Spain in the semi-finals. If they come second from their Group, the English team will probably face Brazil in the quarter-finals and France in the semi-final.
Who could England face in the World Cup final?
There seems to be general agreement that it will be either Germany, Argentina or Spain that will most likely make it to the final, with Germany being the likeliest. If Harry Kane's optimism and his team's determination translate into an impeccable performance and the English team does make it to the final, it will be a very tough match indeed, with Argentina probably being the preferred opponent due to their doubtful defence.
