NHL tips for the season ahead
If this is the first time you’re betting on the NHL, a few initial NHL betting tips could come in handy. First and foremost, it’s important to understand how the NHL unfolds. Here's a brief outline:
The NHL season is divided into two: the regular season which runs from October to April, followed by the second half of the season which is called the NHL playoffs, which will be played from April to June. Each game will be for a duration of 60 minutes, divided into three 20-minute periods. During the regular season, the losing team gets no point while the highest-scoring team at the end of the game or during an overtime or penalty shootout wins the game and is awarded 2 points. However, when a team loses during the overtime period, it gets 1 point. If none of the teams manage to score during the overtime period, there will be penalty shootouts.
The regular season comes to an end on April 6, 2019, and will be followed by the Stanley Cup playoffs. Eight teams from each one of the two conferences will qualify for the playoffs to compete for the Stanley Cup. During the playoff games, the post-season will be held in a series of rounds to the final, with no penalty shootouts. If the teams don’t score during the NHL playoffs, the game ends with sudden death (the game will end as soon as one team scores a goal). The winner of the NHL playoffs will be awarded the Stanley Cup at the end of the season.
And now, here are a few NHL tips to get started:
1. Sign up with a number of different NHL betting sites ahead of the season. This will enable you to compare odds and place your bet with the site that offers the highest return.
2. Place a bet on the winner if you’re confident it has a good chance of winning. If this team really delivers during the season, betting sites will start offering lower odds, so this may
be the time to take advantage of more favourable odds on the team you’ll be backing.
3. Compare the second and third line centermen of each team before placing your bet. It’s very likely that the team with the stronger centerman will win the game.
4. If a team is playing a game with the backup goaltender, this will give the other team playing with the starter goalie an edge, so it might be best to place your bet on the latter team.
5. Take advantage of NHL live betting odds. This will enable you to gauge changes in momentum and will also give you a larger variety of betting odds.
