The FIFA World Cup sticker album dates back to 1970, to the original Mexico 1970 World Cup album, and has remained popular over decades for a few simple reasons: it is fun and satisfying to complete, gives you all the info you need about the World Cup, and makes you interact with other World Cup fans to swap stickers and complete it.
The World Cup 2018 Official Licensed Sticker Collection will consist of an album with 80 full-colour pages and a two-page spread for each one of the 32 teams. The stickers will display head and shoulders portraits of 18 key players per team, with full details about their role and career, a team photo and badge. Calculations by Professor Paul Harper from Cardiff University's School of Mathematics have shown that on average, a collector will have to buy 967 packets to complete the album, which will involve a cost of £773.60, a dramatic increase on the £374 average that it cost to fill the Euro 2016 album. However, there will be plenty of collector groups on social media, which will make the whole process much cheaper. Once you download the Official App for the sticker album onto your smartphone or sign up for the desktop version, you will receive two virtual packets for free every day. And if you need more stickers, there will be digital codes printed on the back of the Panini stickers sold in stores.
Codes will also be distributed by The Coca-Cola company by means of newsletters, Facebook and Twitter, as well as through special Coca-Cola products in certain countries. The digital album will also enable you to collect Achievements and therefore track your progress in this way; for example, collectors will earn badges if they complete a certain number of teams or a number of team captains.
To give you another reason to complete your albums, all fans who manage to complete their albums before the 31st of August 2018 will be entered into a Prize Draw. This draw will award 50 main prizes plus another 50 for other runners-up!
To make things even more exciting, the Panini Digital World Cup sticker album will involve challenges which will lead to winning free stickers and other prizes. One such challenge could be to collect particular stickers and activating them. You will also have the possibility of creating a group of collectors together with your friends or to join existing groups in order to swap doubles and complete your album faster.
