Eurovision 2018 rehearsals under way: how will the odds change?
The rehearsals for the Eurovision 2018 have kicked off in Lisbon only yesterday, April 29th, and may have already caused the Eurovision betting odds to shift. While Israel’s representative Netta is still the favourite to win the Eurovision 2018, Estonia’s Elina has taken yesterday's rehearsals by the storm with her performance of La Forza. On the other hand, Czech singer Mikolas Josef has had an unfortunate accident due to his acrobatic moves, and is being treated in hospital.
The first rehearsals saw the singers from 10 countries step onto the stage; Azerbaijan, Iceland, Albania, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Israel, Belarus, Estonia and Bulgaria. Although Israel is still the favourite, it seems that Netta has left the press centre feeling rather underwhelmed by her performance, mainly due to the time it took her to set up the voice repeater.
Netta was dressed in a pink mini skirt and a black corset, her hair done up in high double bunches just like in the video, and is accompanied by her backing singers and dancers who act out those quirky chicken moves. However, the lighting and props rather obscured her outfit and the stage looked a bit too spread out during the first rehearsal. The run-throughs were better though, and the pyrotechnics added during the last run through served to produce a more desirable effect.
During the rehearsals, Czech singer Mikolas Josef has also had an accident while performing his acrobatic moves, and is now being treated in hospital for a back injury. We hope that we shall see him perform at the finals, though whether or not he'll be doing the moves remains very doubtful.
Estonia’s Elina, on the other hand, has exceeded expectations with her rendition of La Forza, and some Eurovision betting odds have already changed to reflect this. Although Netta is still the favourite, with odds of 7/4 at Unibet, and odds of 11/12 at Bet365, Estonia might now stand a better chance of winning than previously anticipated. Although odds set for Estonia at Leovegas, Bet365 and Unibet are still ranking Elina’s entry as the sixth favourite, below France, Australia, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic, it is very likely that these sportsbooks will soon change the odds to reflect Estonia's increased chance of winning.
